I ONCE GAVE OUT 85 PAIRS OF SHOES AND STILL HAD 200 LEFT –EMPRESS NJAMAH

Actress, Empress Njamah, tells ‘Nonye Ben-Nwankwo about her fashion and style

What does fashion and style mean to you?

I think they are everyday life. Your fashion is your style.

Do you think you are a fashionable person?

It is not for me to say. My style might be different from what the other person calls fashion. And my fashion can be different from what another person calls her style. I don’t think there is anybody who will say she doesn’t like the way she looks. But basically, it takes a good eye to know good fashion.

Do you have that ‘good eye’?

YES, PATIENCE JONATHAN IS MY JESUS CHRIST – BIPI

Mr. Evans Bipi is the member representing Ogu Bolo State Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly. In this interview with CHUKWUDI AKASIKE, he speaks on his role in the crisis rocking the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Some people have described Rivers State House of Assembly as animal kingdom, how do you feel about this, especially as a principal actor in the whole crisis rocking the Assembly?

I feel bad and I really feel sad, but this is a nation where the Press has freedom of speech. It is a democratic setting. Based on the past incident, one can call it animal kingdom, but it is not. We are there to correct all the anomalies. Whatever that is not good is not good. We are there to point out to the governor that this is not good, this is good, do this, don’t do this so that we can form a good government.

RITA DOMINIC CRIES OUT - MEDIA KILLING MY RELATIONSHIPS

Top Nollywood act, Rita Dominic is known for her easy, pleasant demeanour and can never be regarded as one given to hysterics. But recently, the Nollywood leading lady voiced her frustration with the Nigerian media which she claimed have repeatedly killed her attempt at having a sustainable romantic relation.

In her own words: ”I don’t talk about my personal life because some years ago, I was in this relationship that became public, and the press killed it! The relationship didn’t work out because of the press because they put a lot of pressure on it.” True to her words, it has been relatively difficult to pin her down to any relationship even though she just celebrated her 38th birthday in July.

NOT NIGERIANS:WATCH HOW FLAVOUR'S CAMEROONIAN FANS CRY, FALL DOWN AS HE PERFORMS

Watch how Cameroonians were falling down as Nigerian singer, Flavour performed for them. One of of them actually wanted to go down on him while on stage (28:40). I believe that this kind of spirit does not exit in Nigeria.

POLICE BAR AMAECHI FROM ENTERING GOVT HOUSE

Following the closure of the premises of Rivers State chapter of the New PDP, a faction of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, was  Thursday barred from accessing the Government House, Port Harcourt.

The governor was returning from an inspection tour of some projects and had wanted to access the Government House through his private gate at Forces Avenue at 7.05 pm.

But on getting to the Port Harcourt Club end of the road, about six police patrol vans had barricaded the road, and even when his security detail approached the policemen to tell them that it was the governor of the state that wanted to gain access to his house, they refused.

Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. David Iyofor, told THISDAY that after waiting for about 30 minutes, Amaechi came down from his car and approached the policemen to allow him access to the Government House but they still refused,
insisting that they had orders from above not to allow anyone access through the road.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BELIEVE IN GOD TO GO TO HEAVEN – POPE ASSURES ATHEISTS

In comments likely to enhance his progressive reputation, Pope Francis has written a long, open letter to the founder of La Repubblica newspaper, Eugenio Scalfari, stating that non-believers would be forgiven by God if they followed their consciences.

Responding to a list of questions published in the paper by Mr Scalfari, who is not a Roman Catholic, Francis wrote: “You ask me if the God of the Christians forgives those who don’t believe and who don’t seek the faith. I start by saying – and this is the fundamental thing – that God’s mercy has no limits if you go to him with a sincere and contrite heart. The issue for those who do not believe in God is to obey their conscience.

“Sin, even for those who have no faith, exists when people disobey their conscience.”

Robert Mickens, the Vatican correspondent for the Catholic journal The Tablet, said the pontiff’s comments were further evidence of his attempts to shake off the Catholic Church’s fusty image, reinforced by his extremely conservative predecessor Benedict XVI. “Francis is a still a conservative,” said Mr Mickens.

OZEKHOME : MY ABDUCTORS WERE ANGRY GRADUATES

Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), who regained his freedom on Thursday after three weeks of his abduction, has appealed to the Federal Government to grant amnesty to kidnappers in the country.
Ozekhome made the call on Thursday while recounting his ordeal to newsmen at his residence in Lagos, after he was released by his abductors on Thursday morning.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ozekhome was abducted on Aug.23 at Ehor near Benin City in Edo.

Ozekhome said his son, Ilugbeka, and a lawyer in his chambers, Mr Dominic Ezerioha, were also abducted by the same kidnappers on Sept. 6, while negotiating for his release.

According to him, the kidnappers eventually released him and 12 others about 7 a.m. on Thursday.
The lawyer, however, said he was not aware if any ransom was paid to secure their freedom.
He said the security situation in the country was a national calamity which demanded urgent attention.
Ozekhome described his abductors as ”angry and desperate well-read graduates” who had a network of cells across the country.

UNIBEN VC’S ALLEGED POISONING: ‘LECTURERS PUNISHED FOR ‘CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY

University of Benin (UNIBEN) Governing Council recently sacked 44 staff of the institution allegedly involved in allegations that bordered on gross misconduct.

But since the decision was taken, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Osayuki Oshodin, says he has not had peace. Recuperating from alleged food poisoning, he raised the alarm that some of those sacked by the university Council were after his life. In this interview, Oshodin alleges that some of the sacked staff were involved in sexual harassment, extortion and fake admissions which resulted in the rustication of 142 students.

He also speaks on the current ASUU strike. Excerpts:

44 staff of the University of Benin including senior lecturers were sacked recently, triggering petitions accusing you of being behind their ordeal. What is your take on that?

I am not behind their sack. Some of them collected money from students and the students have since been dismissed and they named them. The procedure for sacking people, the Vice Chancellor does not have a hand in it. First of all, the Intelligence Unit of the university sometimes dictates some of these things or, when they are reported to by students, they are now sent to the Disciplinary Committee.

The Vice Chancellor is not a member of the Disciplinary Committee. The Committee will meet and make recommendation to Council. The Council take the ultimate decision and nobody can influence the Council. Council is made up of over fifteen members, so how can one person influence them? We have four sound lawyers in the Council, one of them is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

N.6BN GOLD IPHONES FOR NIGERIA’S 53RD ANNIVERSARY

Amidst ravaging poverty in the land, Nigeria is reportedly purchasing 53 customised gold-plated iPhones costing N.6 billion for the 53rd independence anniversary celebration billed for the 1st of next month. In a report it published in its edition of Tuesday, The Independent of London, quoted a Bristol-born businessman based in Dubai, Amjad Ali as saying he was fulfilling an order from the Nigerian Government for 53 gold-plated iPhones at the cost of 3,000 pounds each.

At 3,000 pounds, the total cost of the 53 gold iPhones is 159,000 pounds, an equivalent of N662 million. The gold iPhones, according to the businessman quoted by the UK newspaper, was being produce for possible anniversary bash as Nigeria marks its 53rd year of independence.

“We will engrave them with the (Nigerian) coat of arms, a shield and two horses,” he told the London based newspaper.

However, after the story went viral in Nigeria, with Abuja based Premium Times being the first to break it locally, there was a swift denial from the Federal Government, and subsequently, The Independent reported the Dubai based business tycoon, Ali, as reaching out to say he was “fulfilling an order from a Nigerian individual”.
The newspaper was thereby compelled to write a note which said: “In an earlier version of this article, the founder of Gold and Co. claimed the Nigerian Government had ordered 53 gold iPhones. He now informs Independent Online that the order in fact came from an individual in Nigeria”.

TENANT BLINDS CARETAKER

An angry tenant, Jessy John, has allegedly rendered a 60-year old caretaker, Levi Ogbuo, partially blind over the demand for payment of three-month arrears of his house rent in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.

It was alleged that John, who rented  one room apartment at 6, Opeloyeru Street, Egbe-Ikotun, Lagos, beat up Ogbuo, the caretaker in charge of the house, and hit one of his eyes with a  wooden stool when he  was asked to pay up his house rent.

The caretaker was rushed to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, Ikeja, Lagos where it was confirmed that his eye was badly damaged and he cannot see with it again.

The remorseful John told P.M.NEWS that he did it out of anger because the caretaker has been disturbing him over the rent and did not allow him to go to work on the day the incident happened.

John, who is from Enugu State, admitted that he owed three-month house rent because he had no money.

INDIAN CHILD ROONA BEGUM RECOVERING AFTER HYDROCEPHALUS SURGERY

The pictures may be difficult to look at, but 18-month-old Roona Begum's story of survival is remarkable.

Soon after she was born in a remote village in northeastern India, Roona was diagnosed with an extreme form of hydrocephalus -- a disorder causing cerebral fluid to build up in the brain.

Doctors had given Roona just a few months to live.

"Day-by-day, her head started growing bigger, she stopped wanting to eat, she would just lie in bed, it became very difficult for us to carry her and take her anywhere," says Roona's father Abdul Rehman says.

Roona's head grew to a circumference of 94 centimeters, almost triple the size of a normal baby.
