Oil Thieves: Navy Hands Ghanian, Cameroonian, 60 Others Over To Police In Bayelsa


The Central Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy on Tuesday handed over sixty-one persons including a Ghanaian and Cameroonian to the state police command over their alleged involvement in cases of crude oil theft, illegal firearms possession and operation of illegal refineries along the waterways and creeks of the state.

The Navy also announced the seizure of crude oil vessels namely MT WHARF DALE,MV HENTY, MV TOBILOBA, MT EMMANUEL, MT PAULINE, MV. S &T VICTORIA(Tug) and a Large wooden boat(Cotonou) between July and September this year by the patrol team of the Forward Operating Base, FORMOSO at Egweama Brass.

The flag officer commanding the Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral Sidi-Ali Usman, while handing over the suspects to the state police commissioner, represented by an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Chris Nwaogu, said the seven vessels impounded by the Navy  in the state's water ways would remain in their custody until the matter was concluded in court.

Represented by the Command Operations Officer, Commodore Emmanuel Enemor, the flagoOfficer said the impounded vessels include MT WHARF DALE, MV HENTY, MV TOBILOBA, MT EMMANUEL, MT PAULINE,MV. S &T VICTORIA(Tug) and a large wooden boat(Cotonou) were arrested between July and September this year by the patrol team of the Forward Operating Base, FORMOSO at Egweama Brass at various locations with stolen crude bothering largely on economic sabotage.
